February 16th is World Read Aloud Day

LitWorld is the organization that started this day as part of their mission for literacy world-wide. The idea behind World Read Aloud Day is to encourage everyone, everywhere to read aloud. This movement is founded on the belief that literacy is a universal human right. It is super easy to participate, and the cool thing is that lit world has a number of great and free resources available for just that!

How Reading Aloud Benefits Kids:

  • promotes emerging literacy and language development
  • supports the relationship between child and parent

World Read Aloud Day not only encourages people to read aloud, but to read their own writing aloud. Reading any book aloud is good, but being able to create something yourself to share with others is even better. Their activity packet is jam-packed with age-appropriate options and they also have a picture book available for free as a PDF! Click the link to see how you can participate.
