The Bully in the Mirror THUNDERCLAP! Raise awareness for kids and teens about self- bullying. Our goal is to help 1 MILLION children and teens to be mindful of their thoughts and prevent self-bullying. #TheBullyInTheMirror
Why Raise Awareness About Self-Bullying?
Negative self-talk can lead to depression, and depression to suicide. Suicide is one of the leading causes of death for 15-24 year old canadians, 2nd only to accidents. Preparing our children and teens to be aware of their thoughts and working to build positive mental health is a step towards saving those kids.
My path to promoting positive mental health for children started 5 years ago when I lost a loved one to suicide. My hope is that this work will prevent depression from setting in to vulnerable children and teens.
How Can I Help?
#1 DONATE A TWEET OR POST – Sign up for our Thunderclap campaign before October 10, 2017 (World Mental Health Day) and donate a Facebook post or a tweet to raise awareness on self-bullying for kids everywhere! Thunderclap is a tool that is easy to use. Instead of donating money, you can donate a tweet or post to raise awareness. Follow the link and follow the prompts.
#2 SELF EDUCATE – What IS Self-Bullying? Watch “The Bully in the Mirror” and share it with your children to learn more. “The Bully in the Mirror” tells a story of a young girl who is constantly berated by a bully all through school. She finally gets the courage to stand up to the bully, but when she turns to face her, she realizes SHE is the bully is in the mirror. It has been her all along! She is the one who has been putting herself down, criticizing herself, bullying herself all these years. Miriam uses this story to illustrate how we can be unaware of negative thought patterns and then goes on to present different strategies to create positive self-talk and a positive self image.
